Getting started with Masterly

What to do in your first 10 minutes - set up your student, approve the starting plan, and run a first session.

Add your student

Onboarding asks for the basics - name, year level, state - and a couple of questions about how your student learns best. Take your time; the more we know, the better the first session feels.

If you have a recent report card handy, upload it during onboarding. We'll extract strengths and gaps and propose a starting plan, which you can edit before approving.

Approve the starting plan

We suggest a small handful of skills to begin with - usually 3 to 5. You can add more or toggle any off. Less is more here: short focused sessions outperform long crammed ones.

Your student won't see anything until you approve. Nothing reaches them automatically.

Run the first session

If the plan builds on skills from earlier years, the first session opens with a short starting check: a few quick questions on those skills, so lessons start in the right place. It's not a test: a question they haven't learnt yet is one tap ("I haven't learnt this yet"), and it's taught first; they can also skip the whole check. You'll see on the dashboard what they already knew and what will be taught first. You can run another check from the dashboard any time.

Hand the device to your student and open the daily session. First sessions are often short - a lesson or two - because nothing has been taught yet, so there's nothing to practise; they grow over the first week. They'll see a mix of teaching, practice, and a quick knowledge check - designed to feel like progress, not testing.
