About Masterly

Built for one kid first.

Masterly started as a tool a parent built for their own Year 8 student, who has ADHD and learning difficulties and for whom school moved at exactly the wrong pace: too fast to fill the gaps, too slow to show what was really going on.

The problem we kept hitting

Homework came home as a worksheet with no marking guide. The report card arrived twice a year and said “working towards.” Tutoring apps were either games with no curriculum behind them or worksheets with no scaffolding. Nothing told us which specific skill was missing, taught it in a way that worked for our kid, and then checked a week later that it had stayed learned.

So we built that. Masterly is made in Australia by a software developer who is also the parent in that story, as an independent business with no investors to answer to. The roadmap is set by what helps a child learn and a parent understand, in that order.

  • Mastery over pace

School has to move the whole class at once. A child who missed one idea in Term 1 carries that gap for years. Masterly refuses to move on until a skill is actually solid, and comes back to check it stayed that way.

  • Parents as informed observers

You shouldn't have to be a tutor or a project manager. You should be able to glance at one page and know what's going well, what slipped, and what happened about it. Masterly asks for your judgement rarely and shows you everything.

  • Small steps beat willpower

For a kid with ADHD, an open-ended 'do your homework' is the hardest task there is. A ten-minute session with a visible finish line, where every step is one tap, is something they can start today and again tomorrow.

  • AI with guardrails

AI is very good at explaining, generating practice and grading against a rubric. It is not allowed to decide what your child has mastered. That's a fixed rule the server applies the same way for everyone, and every AI output is checked and stored so you can see exactly what was shown.

  • Privacy isn't a feature tier

This is a child's learning history. It lives in Australia, it is never sold, it is never used to train anything, and you can take it with you or delete it whenever you like.
